Thoughtful Thursday, being kind to the Earth

Every Thursday I will be writing posts on being Green! :)

Thursday's Tip:
Take military showers.
A military shower is turning the water on only to rinse.  Personally, I have a problem with taking long showers.  So, a good way to fix that is by turning on the water to rinse off.  I now have the water on for only 3 minutes! =D

No electricity Day

Tomorrow I will be having a "no electricity day".  A day with as little electricity as possible.  No lights, no computer, no cell, no i-pod.  The fridge will have to stay plugged in, but everything else goes unplugged!  it's nice to have a day where I'm not focusing on electronics.  My laptop and cell phone will have to stay turned off!

This is a nice excuse to have a relaxing day!  Here are some ideas of things to do:
  • Go on a hike
  • Have a picnic
  • Go for a run/walk
  • Make a kite
  • Read
  • Sing
  • Write (with an old-fashioned notebook and pen!)
  • Write a letter (some snail mail is good)
  • Make jewelry or other crafts
  • Make a birdhouse, bathouse, or butterfly house
  • Garden
  • Make Play-dough
  • Create a chalk mural
  • Make a baking soda volcano
  • Make paper airplanes
  • Camp or "campout" in the livingroom
  • Create a mini castle out of cardboard
  • stargaze
  • make a paddle boat
I don't know about you all, but I can't wait to start my "No electricity Day"!! :D
Do any of you have any suggestions or wish to try it?

A Life Worth Living

So there always comes the common question,
"What would you do if you were stranded in a desert and the only other thing was a cow?"
Well, that's a very interesting question.  Benjamin Zephaniah had my favorite answer,
"I'd find out what the cow was eating and join it."
Right on Benjamin! I love that answer!!  :)  Do any of you have any questions like that that you could never seem to answer?  Or some interesting answers??  Please comment!

I've also been reading this very interesting book.  It's called "Toxin" and it's by Robin Cook.  It's a fictional story, but it's based off of facts and similar stories.  Basically what it's about is the meat industry and how animals are slaughtered, the USDA, and what diseases can come from meat very easily.  It shows what the USDA and the meat industry have been trying to hide too.  I suggest anyone to read it!

I hope you are all having a fantastic, summer celebrating equality! :)

A Perfect World

So I just got back :)  I had the most amazing time at camp ANYTOWN, a camp all about diversity and acceptance.  It taught me about differences and how to love myself and others. :)  I made so many amazing friends and I had a ton of fun through workshops, games, activities, and free-time.

So I'm ready to bring back that accepting attitude and love ALL living things :) It's all I know.  I love the idea of a perfect world.   In my perfect world, here's what I would have:

  • All types of differences
  • Love for those differences
  • uplifting and inspirational music
  • Movies and books about all different situations and people
  • Animals who are treated fairly and not tortured or harmed
  • People who are welcomed by all for exactly who they are
  • A kind of love that comes with closeness <3
But a perfect world to me would not be perfect.  There would be flaws and differences that would be accepted and understood.  There would be happiness, yes, but there would also be sadness, anger, and pain. What would keep the world going?  Love would. :)

And this is just my idea of a perfect world.  I hope that this can be inspirational to all :) and i suggest any camps that are ANYTOWN or that are similar.  Because it was the most amazing experience of my life!  What are your ideas of a perfect world?
